With the sanction of Government, Maharaja Dungar Singh was seated on the Gaddi on the 21st July 1872.
Important events during his reign were:

Regency Council Established During the Maharaja's Minority: - As the Maharaja was a minor, the existing State Council was converted into a Regency Council and Captain Burton Assistant Agent to the Governor General stationed at Sujangarh was appointed its President. Pandia Manphul was to supervise the work of all the members of the Council. The State was then deeply in debt and it was found necessary to borrow Rs. 25,000 to carry on the administration.
Reforms introduced: - Reforms were introduced into every Department.                                                                                                     Powers and Duties of Officers Defined: - The Powers and duties of the officers of all Departments were defined.
Summary Settlement of Hanumangarh: -ln l871, a summary settlement was made with the Zamindars of the Hanumangarh Pargana for 5 years.
The Custom of Satti Prohibited in the State: - In 1872, the custom of Satti was prohibited in the State.
Jail Established: - A Jail was established in Bikaner in the same year.

Record Department Brought into Proper Order: - Pandit Manphul brought the record department into proper order.
A School opened: - A School was also opened in Bikaner in 1872.
The Maharaja Attains His Majority:- Maharaja Dungar Singh attained his majority on the 12th September 1872 and was given full powers on the 11th Idem, although the formal announcement was not made by Colonel Brook, Agent to the Governor-General, in Darbar at Bikaner until the 22nd January 1873.
Diwan Pandit Manphul Resigned and Maharaja Lal Singh appointed President of the State Council: - Diwan Pandit Manpul, C.S.I., resigned his post on the 30th December 1873, when Maharaj Lal Singh father of Maharaja Dungar Singh was appointed President of the Stat Council in his place.
The Maharaja's visit to the Agent to the Governor-General at Sambhar: - In September 1874, the Maharaja paid a visit to the Agent to the GovernorGeneral at Sambhar.
Survey of Bikaner : - The Survey of the State was commenced by the Surveyor General's Department the same year and completed in 1880.
The Maharaja's visit to Prince of Wales: - In January 1876, the Maharaja paid a visit to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales at Agra, where he also interviewed the Maharao Raja of Bundi and the Maharaja of Kishangarh.
The Maharaja's Marriage: - On the 22nd February 1877 the Maharaja was married at Katch Bhuj to the daughter of the chief of that place.
Salt Treaty: - In January 1879, a treaty was concluded between the British Government and the Bikaner Darbar with regard to the manufacture and sale of salt in the Bikaner State.
Further Reform: - In February 1880, further reforms were introduced into the state with the advice of Colonel Bradford, Agent to the Governor General.
Appointment of paid Tahsildars in the State: - The system of leasing Parganas to Havildars was given up as the practice led to the rack renting of the villagers, and paid Tahsildars were appointed to collect the revenue in tahsils. Rules connected with the revenue assessment were framed and introduced into the State from the Ist March 1880.
Settlement of the Tibbi Parganas made: -
In 1880, the Settlement of the Tibbi Pargana was made through Sita Ram Saran, Settlement Officer.
First Census of Bikaner :- In 1881, the Census of the Bikaner State was taken up as a part of the general Census of India.
Funds subscribed for founding a College: - In the same year, a fund was raised by subscriptions to found an institution in Bikaner, to be named the Dungar Singh College, and in February 1883, a School was opened in Bikaner.
Forts Dismantled : - In October 1883, the forts of Bidasar and Sandwa were dismantled. Ram Singh of Mahajan, Bahadur Singh of Bidasar, Thakur Hir Singh of Sandwa, and Megh Singh of Jassana were banished, but subsequently allowed to return and to reside in Bikaner, their estates were granted to their real or adopted sons. The punishment of Hir Singh was, however, remitted.
Summary Settlement of Bikaner : - A summary Settlement of the Khalsa Villages was made for a term of 5 years.
Budget System Introduced: - The system of preparing an annual budget of income and expenditure was at this time introduced into the State.
Police Department Re-organised: - The Police Department was re-organized in 1884.
Permanent Settlement of Revenue made with the Thakurs: - A permanent settlement of revenue was made with the Thakurs and all disputes on this account brought to an end by the month of May 1884.
Nizamats Established: - IN 1884, the Sadar Courts of Civil and Criminal Jurisdiction were abolished and 4 Nizamats were established in their Stead.
A Civil Surgeon Sanctioned for Bikanir: - In June 1884, a Civil Surgeon was sanctioned for Bikaner.
A British Post Office Opened: -On the 1St July of the same year, a British Post Office was opened in the city.
The Karkhanajat Department reformed: - A reform was made in the Karkhanajat Department and an officer was appointed to supervise it.
Dispensaries opened in Sujangarh and 8 other Places: - In 1885, dispensaries were opened at Sujangarh and 8 other places.
Jail reforms: - Reforms were introduced into the Jail working in 1886. New Angio Vernacular Schools Opened: - In 1886, eight new Angio Vernacular Schools were opened in the State.
Death of Maharaja Dungar Singh: - Maharaja Dungar Singh died on the 19 August 1887, leaving no issue. He however, formally adopted his younger brother Ganga Singh shortly before his death.
