"The Tamed Lion" |
|||
| On 5th June, the Environment Day, I heard many lions roaring to save our
environment. Save! From whom? The common people or the people, who are taming
furious, wild animals not even sparing our national animal-the lion. We, the
common people (timid cats) listen to their brain washing speeches and lionize
them. They are enjoying the lion's share of life and we are sitting at the
lion's mouth. Common people dare not sit on a tiger's hide (or any hide) to meditate, they cannot afford to have wallets of calf leather, cannot buckle snake leather belts to hold their trousers up. One of the good omen which comes at the entrance of their huts could be a rusted horse shoe, found at the roadside while auspiciousness in the caves of social lions is symbolized by majestic antelope's horns acquired by hunting graceful creatures of the jungles. Whose policy brought "the King of the Jungle" to the zoo? These policy makers after snatching the king's kingdom (their habitat) have put these powerful carnivores of the Leo family behind the bars and captured theirs souls to roar amongst us. Occasionally they visit the zoo along with cameramen of all television channels and press reporters. The next day, the common people just smile to look at the photographs of these lions and N.R.J. (Non Resident Junglites) with blunt canines in the national newspapers. Your Honour! An appeal from the common people. Let these quadrupeds retreat to their kingdom and enjoy their freedom. Do not disturb the food chain by making the animals of the top tropic level, the protégés. There should not be any zoos with visitors offering peanuts or national parks with patrolling jeeps and wagons carrying the so called animal lovers and staying in guest-houses built in the parks. Do not worry about their survival. The nature history in the form of Darwinism and Lamarckism is not going to be proved wrong. Remember, " Whom God keeps, no frost can kill". Let's save our jungles, the natural habitat for our real lions. Take prismatic binoculars, sit in a helicopter and take an aerial view to watch the complete food web and the lion in his top position. There are many Tarzans amongst us who can go into deep jungles to look after these beasts and return video filming of their rejoicing.
