Mammoth military exercise in Bikaner
The South-Western command of Army is planning a mega military exercise - first of the mammoth exercise of this command after its inception. It is believed that Army Chief General J. J. Singh and The President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalaam will also visit the venue to witness the Gen-next preparations of the army in wartime involving high-end gadgets for communication & information technologies, and electronic war gadgets. The exercise is scheduled from 23rd April to 7th May in the deserts of Bikaner. It is said that this is the biggest ever exercise conducted in Rajasthan state.
Cultural eve at Ajit Foundation
The annual function celebrations of Ajit Foundation started with colourful presentations of different communities living in Bikaner. The first day celebrations were to showcase Punjabi, Sindhi, Bhojpuri, and Brij cultures through their cultural presentations. Various dignitaries from these societies performed their events with full enthusiasm and thanked Ajit Foundation for providing them this unique opportunity to share the dais with different community representatives. On April 10, a lecture-discussion session is scheduled where the chief editor of the Hindi national daily from New Delhi Mr. Om Thanvi will deliver a lecture on `Arts and life` followed by discussions.
Rao Bikaji awards announced
To commemorate the Silver Jubilee year of Rao Bikanji Sansthan, 38 personalities from different fields will be honoured for their significant contributions in different paths of life and redefining human values. In a press release, Mr Vidhya Sagar Acharya, himself a creative personality and theatre worker announced the name of the awardees. The ceremony will be organized at Rao Bikaji Statue, Bikaner on 19th April - the foundation day of Bikaner. The awardees of 11 categories have been informed and 20 other youngsters will be given certificates for their works/contributions towards various segments of life in Bikaner. RealBikaner wishes the awardees all the very best and hope that they will continue their significant works in developing Bikaner in all spheres of life.
Need of a separate university for Veterinary science - Mathur
To improve the standards of veterinary education and facilities, there is a need to establish a separate veterinary university. Speaking during the 7th convocation at Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner the President of Veterinary Council of India Dr. A. L. Mathur reiterated the need of such full-fledged institution in Rajasthan as states like West Bengal, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh & Maharastra have separate Veterinary Universities. Most of the districts in Rajasthan have livestock dependent economy and the new veterinary university can help development of educations, research and extension of veterinary and can help improve the life of locals.
7th Convocation of Agricultural University (April 9, 2007)
The 7th Convocation of Rajasthan Agricultural University (RAU) was held at its campus in Beechwal (Bikaner). More than 550 graduates, 118 postgraduates and 30 PhDs were awarded degree during the ceremony by the chief guest Dr. A. L. Mathur, President, Veterinary Council of India. 18 students were awarded with gold medals for their supreme performance. The state governor Mrs. Pratibha Patil was to award degree to the students but at the last moment, her program cancelled and acting VC & Divisional Commissioner Mr. Vinod Kapur presided over the ceremony. He also informed the audience about the new courses, programs and research activities of the university.
`The Regal Patriot` - a book on Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner (April 8, 2007)
Maharaja Ganga Singh Trust of Bikaner is releasing a book on the life and works, and some untouched but important issues of life of the erstwhile Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner. Former VC and retired Prof. S. S. Rathore of JN Vyas University, Jodhpur is the author of the book that will give a complete glimpse of the life of Maharaja Ganga Singh and his relations with national leaders including Mahatma Gandhi, G. C. Gokhle, and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Prof. Rathore has also authored books on Maharaja Sardul singh and Maharaja Karni Singh of Bikaner. The book will be released in a function in New Delhi in the first week of August and thereafter, it will be released in Bikaner in September.
Preserve the heritage for coming generations: Colbourne
Preservation of arts and culture is our moral responsibility towards the future generations, and as a human being, we must have a sense of responsibility to act accordingly. Inaugurating "Organization for Conservation & Promotion of Arts & Heritage" (OCPAH), Ms. Jane Colbourne and Ms. Pamela Gandam of UK showed keen interest in their involvement for the promotion and conservation of arts, culture & heritage of Bikaner. Founder of the OCPAH Mr. Abdul Usta said that his sole objective was to create an organization that works exclusively for promotion and conservation of precious arts, and he wanted to involve youth in the campaign. Noted writer on tourism, Mr. U. C. Kochar emphasized on preserving arts & cultural heritage of Bikaner which is more than 500 years old. The speakers expressed hope that involvement of youth and working in a more organized way would definitely help promote and preserve arts & cultural heritage of Bikaner.
Confusion over the governor`s Bikaner visit
The state governor Mrs Pratibha Patil is scheduled to arrive Bikaner on Sunday to attend two functions, one of which is Rajasthan Agricultural University Convocation but no confirmation news has been received so far. The university officials handling the arrangements for the convocation ceremony are working as per plan but are not sure for the schedule of the governor. However, it is reported that the final words about the governor’s visit will be conveyed by Jaipur before Saturday night and the university officials believe that it will be as per program scheduled for the convocation ceremony. The Governor Mrs. Patil is also to attend valedictory function at Engineering College, Bikaner for the ‘Technowar 2007’ Tech-symposium.
Sand storm followed by late night showers helped bringing down mercury
After temperature rise up to early 40s, sand storm in the evening relieved the locals from the scorching heat. In the late night around 2.30 AM, light showers made it more pleasant. According to sources close to weather watchers, the cycle will be repeated for few days with rising temperature, followed by sand storm and occasionally showers as the mercury is reaching to its usual level for the month of April-June.
Rescue operation completed but Sarika couldn`t be saved (April7, 2007)
The rescue operation to save life of Sarika Yadav couldnt brings her live out of the bore-well wherein she fell accidentally day before yesterday evening in Aadsar Village of Shri Dungargrah Tehsil, 90 km from Bikaner. Military personnel, local police, fire brigade and public were all doing their best efforts to save the life of the infant but it seems injury on the skull while she fell down caused her death. Taking lessons from this sad incident, administration is asking farmer community to close the dead bore-well when they are not used anymore. A stringent policy is required to prevent repeat of such incident and save precious life, demanded the local MLA Mr. Mangala Ram Godara
Infant trapped into bore well
A one-and-half-year old baby Sarika Yadav fell accidentally into a tube-well in a village Adasar (Dungargarh), 90 km from Bikaner yesterday evening. Personnel from Army, police, and fire brigade are engaged in the rescue operations. The 150 ft deep bore well is very narrow at the base, and there is no movement on the screen of the CCTV dropped in the bore well this morning and the images are also not very clear to trace the exact position of the girl. Army men are trying to find a way to safely pull out the child. A parallel hole is also been dug near the bore well so that army men can go down and rescue the child. Savita has been trapped in a 12-inch pipe of the bore well.
National conference on arthritis
A one-day national conference is being organized at Hotel Basant Vihar Place, Bikaner to discuss new initiatives in the field of diagnosis and treatment of `Arthritis`. Experts from different parts of the country are coming in to discuss and share latest advancements, and making people aware of the disease and its treatment. A book on ‘How to live with the arthritis’ will also be released on this occasion.
Technowar to be inaugurated on 7 April 2007
The `Technowar` - a two-day Tech-symposium of the engineering students and faculty along with industry sector is opening tomorrow at Engineering College, Bikaner. Various dignitaries are coming to attend the symposium in which, students will demonstrate their skills through papers, posters and models. The Governor Mrs. Pratibha Patil is coming on second day for the valedictory function. A team of faculty members and students volunteers is working tirelessly to make this event a success and a meaningful for both students and faculty members to open up to the new developments in their field.
Five-day celebration for Bikaner Foundation Day
Bikaner’s foundation day – Aakha-Teej will be celebrated will pomp and peasantry over five days. A high level administrative committee met to chalk out the detailed plan for the events and responsibilities have been allocated to look over these events. A cultural eve, poetry recital, book exhibition, lectures & discussion session, award function to honour dignitaries of the city are few of the programs to be hosted at different places for the celebrations. For the first time, kites of various forms and shape will also be displayed in an exclusive kite-exhibition at Sudershana Art Gallery, Bikaner. The regular cultural eve on this occasion will be organized at Laxmi Nath Temple.
Bank officer brutally killed by his own servant (April 6, 2007)
In a shocking incident, Sr. Manager of SBBJ, PP Branch Mr. Alok Gupta was killed by his own servant working at his home to assist the family of the couple. The couple appointed this servant few days back but was not satisfied with his work. He was paid and asked to leave the house but the servant Ajay requested to stay overnight in the house. While preparing the food, he intoxicated the food. Mr. Gupta and his wife consumed the intoxicated food and started vomiting. Before they could understand the fatal plan of their own servant, he attacked on both and killed Mr. Gupta while his wife escaped. Police is making intensive search and it is believed that he has taken cash and jewelry from the house, making it a case of robbery and murder involving more than one people.
